Keep On Moving As You Age

One reason the elderly probably spend so much time sitting around is because most of us believe that if you’re not getting sweaty you’re not getting real exercise. So why bother?

But a new study points to evidence that any kind of activity, even housework, can have benefits if done every day.

Researchers at the University of California San Diego tracked 6,000 women for three years with accelerometers, which measured how much activity they were getting. And these women ranged in age from 65 all the way up to 99. And the results were good news for women who were moving, according to this article:

…those who got at least 30 minutes of light physical activity a day were 12% less likely to die, compared to those who got less. Those who got an additional 30 minutes of moderate activity were 39% less likely to die.

As you can see, the more intensity the better, but even light activity made the women healthier.

So remember that it’s not all or nothing when it comes to exercise, no matter how old you are.
